Flash anim over transparent BG?
Posted by J. Tad newberry on July 6, 2009 at 10:10 pmI’ve looked a little, but still not quite sure if Motion can do this. A client is wanting a flash anim for the web, who’s background would be transparent so it would play over their web content on their webpage. I know i can do the animation part in Motion, but will the transparent BG also transfer over into a Flash file?
Thanks again!

July 6, 2009 at 10:28 pmYes it can be done, for example: When the web site loads up an actor walks onto the website and introduces themselves. We have all seen it lots of time. I’ve done a lot of them myself. Anyways, for this example you would export out the keyed actor. Make sure it is set to Quicktime movie and that the codac is Animations (Set to Millions colors +). The flash designer will take that into flash and the transparent part of the clip shows through so you can see the flash designers background. Hope this helps.

Ya, perfect, thanks for the reply. But if i wanted to deliver to their web guy a finished Flash file, i recall someone saying that i could export the anim-codec’ed QT (as per your post) as a Flash out of MPEG Streamclip, yet i never did find that export option. The closest was an “FLC” – is that the same as a Flash, i humbly aks? Or, maybe the best option is just deliver the QT to their web guy and let him convert it to Flash?
Thanks again!

July 6, 2009 at 10:55 pmOkay, a flash movie is a .flv file and it can’t do transparency. If you own flash you can compress it with Flash or you can use Sorenson Squeeze, Cleaner or by some plug-in that will let you do it in compressor. Final Cut Studio does not come with the ability to compress .flv files. Hope this is the answer that you are looking for.

July 6, 2009 at 11:07 pmAh, maybe i’m asking the wrong questions. My client would like a simple anim over a transparent background to play on his website. He has not asked for “Flash”, i was just assuming that would be the delivery format. So, I have FCS 2, and no other graphics programs. Can i deliver what they are asking for? Maybe just deliver it like you first said, the anim QT and assume that will be playable on the web?
Thanks again!

July 7, 2009 at 9:24 pmReally this is a question for the web guy. What format does the web developer want. Here is a tutorial that shows how to create a flash video with a transparency: https://theflashblog.com/?p=59 Every Flash person I’ve worked with just wants it as an Animation Millions Colors + so they have full control over the compression.
