    If you have Dynamics you can use Softbody dynamics on a spline . This won’t give you collisions like the spline dynamics from hair, but believable behaviour for rope.
    Another option would be deformaiton by bones and using Soft IK for the motion.

    cool, I’ll give that a try thanks, but whats the best way to tie multiple flags to the resultant softbody spline?

    personaly i would do it with TP or Xpresso.
    Creating particles along a spline is easy, there is already a preset for this. You would need a second setup to keep the particles on the spline when it’s moving though. If you are after a still then you can emitt the particles after the spline has reachd the shape you want.
    With Xpresso you could place the flags using a hierarchy iterator and the index of the flag to compute a relative position on the spline and then use the spline node to set the position of each flag.
