Fixing damaged frames
Posted by Gerald Stokes on June 1, 2008 at 4:27 amHi,
Yet another question…
If my project has damaged frames, can Vegas Pro 8 help in anyway? is there a way to remove video drop-outs without the original tape? Maybe vegas can replace a damaged frame with a good frame just before or after the damaged one?
Thanks in advane

June 2, 2008 at 2:22 amYou can also do it by zooming in on the timeline in Vegas until you can see each frame. Split before and after the bad frame and delete the bad frame. Then split before the last good frame or after the first good frame and hold control button and drag a copy of the preceeding or following frame to replace the bad one. If there is fast movement in this shot, you may see the replaced frame. You can use both preceeding and following frame and use them both together by putting one in the track above it and lowering it’s opacity to show a double image sort of speak but it will look smoother in the playback. Hope this helps. Danny Hays

I have not done this or used that tool of Excalibur but my feeling is that it would not work so well with HDV footage due to GOP. Is that correct? -

June 2, 2008 at 5:37 pmI don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Everytime you press “S” on the HDV footage, you’re probably not on a GOP boundry. This would be the same difference. You’re picking a specific frame. It might have to work harder to get the info for that specific frame, but you’re not actually deleting the other footage so it can still determine what should be in that frame by going back to the original file.
