    Hi,

I’ve filmed the following footage using the Sony VG10 interchangeable lens HD cam. The footage was filmed in 1080 60i.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk7dUjv6SIs

Using Sony Vegas 10 Pro, I was going to edit the clip plus many others but have noticed that a color artifact appears in several shots, usually in areas where the color red is dominant though not exclusively.

You can see the color artifact while looking at the red roof.

Can anyone explain to me what this artifact is and suggest a way to correct it, preferably using Sony Vegas 10 Pro?

    Thanks!

I don’t see any color artifacts. What I see is interlace line twitter because the shingles on the roof create horizontal lines that are thinner than one field in the 60i frame. This happens all the time on TV when a guest wears a striped tie or shirt (because the host knows better than to wear these). 😉

The way to get rid of it is to shoot progressive mode or convert it to progressive in post, or add a slight vertical blur in post.

    I’ll try that.

However, when I rendered the video, I rendered it for the internet at 1920-1080 30P and the interlace lines still appear. I guess that converting to progressive didn’t work. I’ll try the vertical blur though.

Is it possible to add a vertical blur specifically in the interlaced area and not apply it to the whole clip?

Thanks John and thanks for the explanation.

What did you have your Deinterlace Method set to in your Project Properties when you rendered?

Yes, you could duplicate the event on a track above and apply a mask to the new top event then when you apply the blur, it will only affect the masked area.
