Does anyone make a software solution to fix dropouts (white blocks or “stars” and “bars”) in captured DV footage?

It should be straightforward to recognize a dropout, and the fix could be as easy as averaging the affected area from the frame before and frame after the dropout.

    Thanks!

Excalibur has a Fix Bad Frames feature that has worked well for me. I had a couple of tapes in 1 batch that had intermittent drop outs but where the footage had to used. Rather than pulling a still and then going into Photoshop and all that good time consuming stuff, I just places the cursor over the bad frame, and told Excalibur to either use the Previous frame or Next frame and BAM! All fixed.

    Thanks for the help Don.

I have Excalibur, but not the latest version with the dropout fix (I’m still on Vegas 5). Another reason to upgrade…..

But gosh darn it, I would love to see a software tool that automatically recognizes the dropouts, and fixes them in place.

Tom, the LATEST version of Excalibur (4.5 as of this writing) will work with Vegas 5.0b or newer or 6.0b or newer. No need to NOT get the latest version even if you’re still on Vegas 5.

The “dropout fix” tool was previously in Neon.

Is it stating the obvius to suggest that you fix your computer and capture again?
