I am trying to figure out using the Animatte Effect in Avid Media Composer and need some assistance. I’ve done anything with an Animatte before and I thought I could just figure it out but it has proven to be more difficult than I imagined.

    V1 – Image 1
V2 – Image 2 (trying to apply Animatte to this image)
    V3 – Resize effect
    V4 – BCC Brightness effect

Basically, I am trying to use the person on Image 1, who is on the right side of the screen and place the person from Image 2, who is on the left side over that.

    Does anybody have any pointers?

Without actually knowing what your issue is, it’s hard to tell.
For the purpose of this question I guess you only need to be concerned with V1 and V2 (as V3 and V4 will simply adjust all that’s underneath). And, you have indeed set it up correctly.
You don’t say if you are having problems drawing a shape, or, when you draw a shape the result is not what you expect.
If it’s the latter, I’m guessing that you’re are getting the opposite of what you want. For a simple answer, swop the shots around (V1 and V2), and apply the same animatee effect you had back onto V2 (obviously, as before, leave V1 without any effect).
Hope this solves your issue. If you need advice on drawing a shape, you should really take a look at the Help.

    Hey there,

Thanks for responding to my call for help. I was able to figure out the AniMatte effect. I had never used that effect before so I was unaware that I need to use on of the tools to cut the image out. Once I figured that out, I was well on my way. So, thanks!

    v1 image one
v2 imnage 2. add resize, nest color effect, nest animatte

you can then manipulate that composite as one with filler on v3 if you like.
