Can anyone give suggestions on how to force the DVD player to play back the First Play PGC when the remote Stop key is pressed twicem instead of playing VTS_TT#1 ?

I tried to compare GPRMs but not every player reset all parameters.

    Thanks

What app are you authoring with?

You might need to go into the DVD player’s settings to set the player to restart the DVD from the beginning. Pressing stop twice is supposed to clear all GPRMs and resume point data, but some players are notoriously stubborn about continuing from the last playback point — especially those $29 Cyberlink players.

Probably, but the more I read and I understand that the best way to author would be always start with VTS_TT#1 as the First Play command. So from there, you can route where you want.

    Hi Pierre-Luc

You don’t have to go to VTS 1 but you should go to a VTS to prime the players buffer. I’d make VTS 1 a one sec black with a post command to route to the PGC you’d like…that way once you press “stop” twice the player will default to VTS then immediately see that post command and off you do to the PGC.

[eric] “to prime the players buffer”

How important is it to do this ?

It clearly is the way to go to get back to the right place when restarting playback.

    Thanks

Honestly…I would ask that question on the AfterEdit forums if you want a better answer :):)

Have you been over there? Do a search in the archives – lots of great info.

    Hi Pierre and Eric,

There is a way. And I’m almost finished with the article describing how all DVDs should First Play. This is a major revision to my 2001 article “The Most Perfect Startup Action”. Restarting from true stop as the author wishes is just one of the benefits (works with DVD SP and Spec based systems).

This authoring strategy will be just one of the benefits of the new DVD Producers’ Guild organization that should (there’s that ‘word’, Eric 🙂 launch coinciding with NAB next month.

Sorry for being so coy, but this is a doozie! (now, no giving it away Eric; I partially revealed this procedure to you when we talked last month).

Of course, if anyone wants to contact me, fill out the paperwork, sign the NDA, and agree to the by-laws, etc., and go ahead with the yearly dues in advance, we’ll set you up with membership right away; and I’ll get you the procedure. Otherwise, I’ll let you know when things are ready, and be in touch.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Trai
