  • First HD project, Capture device not available

I have 5 tapes shot in HD 1080i with a Sony HDR-HC3, and I cannot get Vegas 8 to even recognize the device. I also have an HVR-M15U that I have used for several years on DV projects (but not yet HD) that Vegas dose not recognize either.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this footage captured? You would think that since all of the devices and software are Sony, it should not be this difficult.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

i have v1p and m15 deck – on occasions when either is not recognised i simply turn it off and on again. vegas always picks it up.

with the 15 and hd i usually find it helpful to play a hd tape prior to switching on and off. so far haven’t had any longer lasting problems….

    Thanks for the reply Leslie.

Vegas does detect the M15U, but only as a “Sony DV Tape Recorder/Player”. Like I said, I have no trouble capturing in DV, but apparently their is a separate device that needs to connect to capture HD footage.

Any ideas, drivers, switches I am missing…?
    Thanks again, Dan

    well,

first power up 15 > put hdv tape in and play (the deck should be switched to either auto, or hdv, the former if you’re swapping between dv and hdv often).

start vegas, click capture and you should get option dv or hdv, click hdv, and if all goes according to plan, you’ll get the hdv capture program.

CAVEAT, the hdv capture prog will either come up in front of all other screens, or as a tab, and if you don’t see it at all, it’s hidden behind some vegas window – this was a real pain and there’s a few threads over on the sony board about it, and getting it back in front.

    good luck
