Captured my first DVCProHd footage today(Using FCP5 and a kona LH). No problems at all with the capture. Here is my question. I can play the clips from my bin in the viewer and they pass right through to the monitor. However, when I place a clip in the timeline it will play in the canvas window but will not pass through to the monitor. The image on the monitor is frozen (all clips in the timeline have been rendered).

Also, as soon as I placed the clip in the timeline, I got a red line above indicating a needs render. Is this correct, or do I have a setup problem.

you are not set up correctly
cmd -zero on the selected project will tell you what the setting are

reset your project using the easy set up for your format (the one used for the capture)
and then create a NEW sequence. then check to see if the video playback settings are active. (set to all frames)

    all should be well
