I’ve seen a lot of posts about how to crop and resize clips in Vegas, most seem to not understand the inverted pan/crop technique. I do understand it, at least I think I do, but i don’t understand how i can both crop and resize a clip at the same time.

What i want to do is to do is to crop and use only the center of one clip that I have. I then want to resize this cropped part of the clip and use it as a Video Overlay clip above another clip only in the upper-right corner.

Do you guys understand the question and can this be done?

Use the event pan and crop to crop the clip, with Maintain aspect ratio checked. (Default) Then use the track motion to resise and position where you want.

There we go, i thought there would have to be two different tools!

Hi, similar problem here, I’m starting to feel a little bit slow in the head.
I have some 2x anamorphic footage originally shot at 1920×1080.
I need to stretch horizontally until 3840×1080, and then crop the sides down to 2580×1080 to achieve a 2.39:1 aspect ratio.
I simply cannot find a way to do this without stretching, rendering, importing, and then cropping.
Can I do this with just 1 source 1920×1080 file?
    Thanks

Oh, wait, I think I found a solution by guesstimating some numbers (I don’t even know how I thought of those calculations).
If I take 1920×1080 footage that was shot with 2x anamorphic lens attached, put it in a 1920×1080 project, and then use these pan/crop settings, I get the result I want: a 2.39:1 frame of video within within a 1920×1080 project.

    The settings are:
    Width: 1290
    Height: 1460
    Maintain A.R.: NO
    Stretch to fill: YES

Left is original 1920×1080 squeezed footage. Right is stretched, cropped, and resized (height) result, all with one pan/crop setting.

The numbers might be a bit off because I just let the math run wild in my head:

    2580 [2.39x 1080] / 3840 [2x 1920] = 0.671875
    1920 [project width] x 0.671875 = 1290

    1.777 [proj. A.R.] / 2.39 [desired A.R.] = 0.74
    1080 [proj. height] / 0.74 [???] = 1459 ~ 1460
