September 11, 2013 at 5:17 pmAs noted on page 39 in the BMD cameras user manual:
“… To check which version of Blackmagic Camera Utility software is installed on your computer, open the About Blackmagic Camera Utility window.
On Mac OS X, open Blackmagic Camera Utility from the Applications folder. Select About Blackmagic Camera Utility from the application menu to reveal the version number.
On Windows, open Blackmagic Camera Utility from your Start menu or Start Screen. Click on the Help menu and select About Blackmagic Camera Utility to reveal the version number. …”The manual can be downloaded here:

September 11, 2013 at 6:21 pmThank you, I didnt register my camera yet, may be a good idea to do so.
I did read this:
Camera Utility software is installed on your computer
but is it was not mentioning the cameras firmware firmware. It mentions computer software.
Will this also mention the current installed firmware on the camera, so I will know whether to update the camera or not?

September 24, 2013 at 9:33 pmYes Install the Camera Software from Blackmagic’s support page and that will check the firmware. Make sure the camera is plugged in USB when you launch the camera utility.

September 25, 2013 at 11:41 pmThe camera has to be on and plugged in USB when you launch the utility. If it shows the message for long just hit the power button on the camera but don’t hold it down. See if it will detect finally. Don’t plug it in to the USB3 if you have that.

September 27, 2013 at 4:43 pmNo I was and am able to firmware update them without an SSD drive. Sometimes I have to hit the power button again when the camera is on and the Utility launched for the camera to be seen but that always worked if it didn’t find it right off.
