We updated our LHi card to the 8.1.1 drivers and it is asking us to update our firmware. Is updating the firmware an essential step after updating the driver? Firmware is scary.

Firmware typically means additional features…enables the card to do new things. ANd yes, the firmware and the sofware need to match if you want anything to work.

    [Rich Rubasch] “Firmware is scary.”

Sometimes (most of the time) updating the firmware is essential when updating the drivers otherwise the card might not work as expected.

and firmware isn’t scary. You click on UPDATE FIRMWARE, and you don’t do anything until it updates. Power cycle, and you are back up. When you update firmware to a disk drive host adaptor card (for example) – how is that scary ? You load in a wrong driver (like AJA I/O instead of AJA Kona 3), and things stop working – that is just as “scary”.

The beauty of a firmware update with AJA is the little checkbox, after the fact, to “revert” firmware.
    AJA has this stuff together.
