Firewire?
Hi All:
Need a little input! No seriously! Here is the question I have an 4 year old G-5. Currently I have a Medea scsi drive that is not working. No USB 2 port, and my DV deck is coming through the Firewire port. Is there any way to use a firewire drive with the deck plugged in? Any other suggestions of a drive. With the sczi controller, there is no slot for a 2nd firewire card. All INPUT is welcome!

Get a good fast drive with two FireWire ports and daisy-chain the deck to the drive to the computer.

Sure you can do this. Your G5 should have a 2nd Firewire port, our old G5 Dual 2.0 does.
If not, simply buy a good Firewire drive (LaCie, CalDigit, WiebeTech, etc…), connect that to computer and connect your camera to the drive. I’ve done this just fine “back in the day.”
Now you generally cannot daisy chain two drives plus a camera so be sure to get a large enough drive / array to suit your needs.

Why not pull your old SCSI card since the Medea is dead anyway and put in a Firewire card or better yet, a SATA card.

Which is what I’d do.
If you replace your dead Medea with a new SATA array, you can use the array with your next Mac. All you will need will be a new controller card fro the Mac Pro. And the Mac Pro, of course!
