I have a G4 with two Lacie firewire(400) drives and a Canopus advc-100 all connected with a firewire hub. I just hooked up my DSR-45 and every time I power up the deck I loose the firewire drives. I tried a bunch of different fixes including removing the hub and daisy chaining. This doesn’t seem to be a final cut problem. If I boot up the Mac with the dsr-45 powered on I cant see the drives. If I then power off the deck the drives magically appear. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Mike,

The Canopus box is the likely culpret. When I had one hooked up I could not control my DSR11. So I enabled EE in that deck and got rid of the Canopus altogether. Now I can capture from analog sources looped through the Sony, including Beta, VHS and DVDs. It all works great.

Nope, but it sounded like it would work. I’m going to try to take the canipus and the hub and see if that does it.

It’s doing the same thing and all I have hooked up is 2 firewire drives daisy chained going in to one port and the dsr-45 in the other. I’m about ready to hit ebay and look for a nice 3/4 online system.

    Hey Mike,

Maybe you should try another FW bus, Lacie makes a pretty cheap card with 3 outlets on it.

It just occurred to me that all of my problems happed after I did a software update. I haven’t had problems like this before so I am starting to think it might be the update. Everyone may want to stay away from the OS X 10.3.9 update! I’ll sent out a post if I can isolate this to the up date.

Is there a dip switch or menu setting on the DSR-45 that could be messing up the computer, I couldn’t see anything obvious?

I found it. It was the update. Thanks for your help Chris.
