I have one IO LA that I intend to share between two Macs in the same rack. Both have Kona cards for SDI and monitoring, but I don’t want to have to buy a second IO. Anyone using a firewire switch in this situation? If so, do you have to turn off the IO before switching or can you just hit the switch and go?

    Thanks,

I used to use FireWire active switcher from nNovia to share single G5 between Camcoder and Io. And I believe you can share your Io with two Macs.

I’m using an A/B switch from SignVideo https://www.signvideo.com/firewire-switch-ieee-1394.htm
to switch between Io and my DSR1500A (you can’t have Io and a FireWire VCR or Camcorder connected at the same time). It works as advertised except it’s very easy for the FireWire cables to disconnect from the switch if you are not careful in handling the switch. SignVideo has a 30-day money back guarantee.
