I picked up a Western Digital MyBook 500 after reading some reviews.
I bought more, but I’m having problems daisy chaining more than 2 in a row. When I put the third one on, the light goes on solid in the front, but it has hard time to showing up on the desktop. When I tried to copy files to it, it ran in an unreasonable time, double or triple of first and second FireWire drives.
If I unplug it and plug it back in, the light just doesn’t come on.I googled online and checked on several forums. I figured out that it should not have any performance degraded with daisy chaining, right? I only access one drive each time, not share any FireWire bandwidth.

I only access one drive each time, not share any FireWire bandwidth.”Absolutely you can degrade the performance, especially with media drives and FW400. Two drives are fine. Three usually work, but not always. I would not rely on a third drive in a chain to work, especially if it’s not a FW800 RAID unit. I can run two G-RAID’s and a LaCie FW800 RAID daisy chained no problem. I wouldn’t try that with FW400 drives.

With FW800, I was able to chain 3 or 4 of the My Book Pro drives together on set without any problems.
You don’t say if it’s only one particular drive, or if it’s any drive in the 3rd position. If you haven’t already, try swapping the drives around & see what happens.
