Activity Forums VEGAS Pro firewire not showing up

I’ve just built a Windows 7 computer that will primarily run Vegas 10. When plugging in my JVC BR-HD50 videotape deck to the firewire port on the motherboard, the computer does not recognize the deck. The computer will however recognize an external dvd burner that is firewire connected.
I had this problem about a year ago (my first Win 7 adventure). JVC and HP were unable to help me so in frustration I went back to an XP machine (XP machines recognize this deck via firewire).
Of course I’d like to make this work, but would I be better off in the long run purchasing a blackmagic type card? Any recommendations which card (I only need something simple).
    Thank you,
    Robert Billings

Hi, apparently this is a well known problem. See this discusson (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/65cb7a25-2a84-4875-aa27-b084537e8da1/) which explains or gives a pointer to the details of why. For some people reverting to the Legacy Driver solves their problem, that note explains how to do it. You will have to make your own decision as to whether the fix will work for you.

I had a similar problem but was reluctant to do it (revert) because on my Sony camcorders I can aquire without problems. My issue was resolved by new software from the vendor (for another device).

The Legacy driver worked for me.

    Graham

I had the same problem on my Windows 7 machine (which was an upgrade from Vista). The legacy driver did the trick.

Interestingly, I have a wireless network adapter that only had Vista drivers for it, but got upgraded automatically with Windows 7, and still works, but will not install on a fresh Windows 7 machine. Go figure.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Where are you looking for the LEGACY driver?

I don’t know anything about VISTA. I went from XP to Win7. Getting to the driver isn’t straight forward. As I say, I’ve got it running on my new Win7 Pro machine.

I just uninstalled the current driver, and it rolled it back to a 2001 version by itself

I have a Canopus ACEDVio card and realized that it had no WIN7 drivers. I found this site that fixed my problem. It too states to use the Legacy driver and my card works fine now with Win7.

All firewire devices that I sent to this Win 7 computer work except the JVC camera and studio deck. I sent a request for help to JVC but never heard back.
I’ve decided to keep my XP computer running and use it for firewire transfers from tape when needed (not too often these days).
It’s not the perfect fix but works well enough.
    Movin’ on,
    -Robert

Yeah, you need to access the “Legacy” driver. It works and works well.

    Grazie
