Firewire is to be used to standardize interfaces on the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (Npoess). The U. S. government is awaiting delivery from Northrop Grumman of the first space-hardened firewire-type interface for a satellite. The 1394 standard is new for use in space, and the Npoess Preparatory Project satellite-will be the first to fly the equipment. The preparatory satellite is scheduled for launch in April 2008.

I wonder what kind of Macs we’ll be using three years from now? And how much will 1TB of firewire drives cost then?

    Cheers,

    Richard
