I know the title is confusing, but basically, I can capture clips with no dropped frames, but when I preview them on the camera, they play fine for 30 seconds and then I lose the clip altogether on the camera lcd. I can still see it on my computer monitor, although it is stuttering at that point, and then it picks back up to 30fps and reappears on the camera lcd. It’s not the drive, I’ve tried several; it’s not the cable, I’ve tried several, and I don’t think it’s PP2, as I’ve reinstalled it…….same problem. The workstation is a DualCore 3.2 with 4GB of Ram and fast drives. The drivers for the firewire card are up to date with no conflicts………….so what’s up???

There are some issues with capturing and previewing in Premiere pro 2.0. I have seen this before on similar system such as yours, but the only thing that helped was replacing the firewire card and modifying a few software settings. To see what settings I modified, check out Adobe.com and search for the term ‘Can’t Activate Recorder’ in their Knowledge Base.
