I have been getting away with using my G5’s built-in FW bus to both monitor video and supply my LaCie FW800 & 400 (Daisy-chained) drives for some time now. (exclusivly SD DV-NTSC footage)

But, more and more I am getting dropped frames and playback hicups. I think it’s time to dig deep into the savings acount and pony up the 30 bucks or so for a FW card.

Any recomendations on good FW 800 cards? A quick B&H search showed several in the $30 range, but also several for $100+, are they worth it?

I think I paid about 70 bucks for a LaCie at the Apple store, course it would have been more like half that on-line, but it’s been problem-free for 3 years, and I don’t remember the last time I dropped frames over Firewire.
