I am having a problem with my firewire. I have a G-force G-raid 1 TB drive that I use to hold my project assests. I mostly capture from DVCPRO, but today I am having to use some minidv footage. As soon as I connect my camera (XL2)via firewire, my hard drive freezes up. I have tried re-booting, but it comes down to the fact that my G5 will only work with my hard drive, or the camera, but not both. This makes it impossible to import the footage from the camera to the drive. Any guesses as to what the problem could be?

    G-Technologies G-Raid?

that is a curious one. I can have my deck, or my GL1 connected and the drive…But I have another firewire card, so…maybe that is it.

Go get yourself a firewire card. About $30.

I recommend another card as well.
A quick work around would be to disconnect the FW drive and attach the Camera, capture all you need to your internal drive, disconnect your camera, quit out of FCP, reconnect your FW drive, move the captured media to the FW Drive, restart FCP and reconnect the media.
