    Hey Guys,

We are in a temporary storage crunch. Wondering if anyone has played back NTSC 10 bit clips from a Firewire 800 drive. We have a G5 so we can use Firewire 800.

We digitzed the media to our UL4D SCSI Huge Array. Of course I am out of space as usual. That always seems to happen no matter how big the drives are!

I would like to move an entire project to a Firewire 800. Just wondering if I can continue to edit the project off of the 800 drive or do I have to wait to move it back to the Huge.

I did talk with a reseller here and they did not recommend it, but I had a client in yesterday and we digitized their footage in 10 bit to one of our SCSI drives and then moved the media to their Firewire 800 and they are going to edit off of it on their system. They didn’t think it would be a problem.

Just wanted to know what you all thought!

    Thanks!
    Michelle

    Hi Michelle,

10 bit NTSC off a FW800 drive is fine. The drive should be able to sustain the throughput required for playback, however you will not get as many layers of playback compared to your Huge array.
