I’d like to hear from anyone who’s used the Firestore FS-100 — pros and cons. I was going to buy the AJ-PCS060G, but then I learned about the FS 100, which has 40g more capacity. I take it that I can also use it as an external drive. But it seems to me that I still would have to get another exxternal drive, correct? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t know if this thing has shipped yet. I look to the places that the compnay recomends I buy this thing and they are not in stock.

    Looks good though.

We’ve been using one, daily for about a month now.

It has never dropped a frame (1080i and 720p). It interfaces with the Mac very well, and we believe it is the greatest tool for long capture stuff.

Having said that, we have a second setup that is based on using P2 cards, and as a reader a P2Store. It also works well. One is designed to shoot in run and gun-remote setups, and the other is nore for studio(Firestore)

We are also planning on purchasing one of the other Firestore like devices when they are released this summer.

    Hope this helps

One issue is that the FS-100 does not allow you to record in 24PN, or 30PN. Another is that the battery life is shorter than the recording time of 111 minutes (at 720/30). Another issue is that it is just a firewire cable connecting the camera to the drive and there is no “locking” mechanism to make sure that the cable doesn’t get ripped out.

However, it’s a better than the P2 Store, as long as you don’t worry about clipping it on your belt.
