I am considering purchasing this combo and would like to hear from anyone out there who has experience using this combo in cold weather. I make action films and am working on a ski film where sometimes the temperature can get really cold, and windy.

As well does anyone have experience or comments regarding the best mounting system for the FS-100. I am looking at the Bebob Box FS & Jimmy Box and wondering if they are better than the FireStore mount on top of the camera? Since I film action in the field, portability is critical to me.

Thanks for any thoughts – Cheers Bill

One thing I can say for sure is the Firestore mount SUCKS! It is horrible, you have to tape it down and position is not good for anything but tripod work.

The firestore is a hard drive so it is not going to like real cold or moisture, I would try to figure out a p2 card solution, even if you have to rent a bunch. Operating Temp is 35-95 F

David, great review, I’m doing a 3 hour test tomorrow for a wide concert I’m shooting next month.

The battery run time is a concern, the 3-hour battery only last about 2 hours. Kind of a true in advertizing think to me.

    Hi Bill,

I’ve no experience with the FS100 though I will vouch for the HVX in cold weather using P2 cards. I’ve done a lot of alpine shooting with the camera with P2 it is great. Very easy on the camera batterys also which seem to run for ever, even in the cold, much better than tape.

    Regards,

    Richard
