  • Firestore Frame Rate Conversion Problem

It appears that the Panasonic Frame Rate conversion software does not convert audio within FCP. So how the heck do you get the Firestore 720/60 data (the only way it records at this point) into an FCP 24 frame project with audio? Does it make sense to set FCP up in a 720/60 project? Will I stil get the film look of 24? And what about the P2 cards recorded in 24PN? What happens to that footage when imported into a 720/60 project? I will have some home movie and stock footage coming in SD upconverted via my Kona card. So I’ll have quite a mix.

Sorry for all the questions. Leaving soon to shoot a feature doc and am not feeling confident in the workflow yet. Got the camera and Firestore talking to each other.

    Thanks for any help!

This is for slow motion conversion…NOT removing the pulldown. Your camera settings need to be set to 720p24 if you want the 24P look and the ability to work at 23.98fps. This will record 60fps, but with pulldown added. What you need to do is remove the Advanced Pulldown after the footage is imported into FCP. TOOLS>REMOVE ADVANCED PULLDOWN. This will create new clips that run at 24fps but in real time motion AND INCLUDE YOUR AUDIO…what you are looking for. The frame rate converter is primarily used to produce stunning slo motion.

that has not been my experience. IF the projects was truly shot at 24p (default) the FRC only removes the redundant frames of the 3:2 pulldown and still leaves the audio intact. Next try running the FRC and check all 3 of the boxes so you get a New QT file. name it and it should play correctly.

NO audio is included with any of the offspeed content that is converted using the FRC (because of the nature of variable speed footage the audio would be distorted – sped up or slowed down)
