    Hey there,

looking at the HVX and firestore for a “gun and run” style doco shoot. The P2 cards won’t really cut it for this kind of project, the record times are way too short, so it looks like the firestore is the only solution.

My concern is that if I’m running about the place what is the likelihood of the firewire cable falling out of the slot? from what I’ve seen there is no special locking mechanism to ensure that the devices stay connected.

anyone had any real world experience with this? or is a heap of gaffer tape looking like my best option 🙂

    thanks

I did some fancy Velcro art on both ends of the FW cable that makes it snug, and I’ve tested it in the field and works great. Also, I make a foam cradle for the bottom portion of the Firestore as much of the time it hangs from the tripod or dangles from my shooting belt. I was afraid it was getting beat up just hangin there and this helps eliminate damage.

I have a 200 and like it a lot but am also somewhat hamstrung by the short recording time on my 2 x 4gig P2 cards. This has become more evident since I am now convinced that I get a better picture for SD by shooting 720 60p and vignetting. Thus my recording time is only 8 minutes at 720.
#1. Where did you get the FS-100? I talked to 4 places today and none of them had machines in stock.
#2. The retailers I have spoken to have said they “thought” there is a mount for the FS-100 that uses the shoe on the top of the camera handle. One retailer thought it comes with the FS. Any comment?
#3. Has anyone seen any cables with “elbow” ends for the little firewire plug that connects to the camera? They would be easier to safety with velkro.
