What is the best way to animate a solid dark background to look as if there are fireflies glowing and fading? I would need just a few frames that I could then loop. Thank you.

Sounds to me like the best way would be to use the circle fitler and animate its position to dart around the screen. you could even use the ‘motion sketch’ tool to get a really organic look. On top of that, add the glow filter and play around with the settings a bit.

When you’ve got one animation you’re happy with, you could always duplicate the layer and change the transfer mode to Add and move it around in space to see two sychronised fireflies. Or delete the position keyframes and do another motion sketch

    Hope that helps
