Finishing RED 4K Project With Final Cut

No need to rebatch the R3D files to ProRes4444 @ 4k. In Color, you can reconnect directly to the R3D files. That way you have access to the RED tab and can alter ISO and Color temperature settings. So you have much greater latitude in grading and you can also avoid the gamma bug in Color with ProRes4444 files. Care needs to be taken in the original transcode to ProResLT to match file names exactly. I have done this with EDLs from AVID also.

Render out your grade as ProRes HQ 2k files and drop that back into FCP for finishing. if you have a Kona card, you will get an excellent scaled 1920 x 1080 output to go to HDCam. You will also have a 2K master file.

You also have the option to output DPX from Color and do a 4k online in a better finishing tool than FCP.

No, just use the r3d files in Color, but set Color to render out at 2k ProRes 422 or 4444 if you have a capture card which will scale it to 1080 for the tape layout. If you don’t have a capture card, then render it to 1080. Better done with the card doing the 2k to 1080.
