  • Finding duplicate stills in the timeline

Posted by Antonio Scarpitta on September 21, 2010 at 11:17 pm

Hello all, I am working on a feature documentary which is 1 1/2 hours with and has over 400 stills. I know that FCP has a show dups feature but it only seems to work with video clips and not stills, am I correct here?

My question is how can I tell if there are repeated stills in my timeline w/o going crazy looking for them?

    I am using FCP6,

    thanks for all your help,

    A.

    1. Create a bin.
    2. select all in your timeline
    3. Drag everything into the bin.
    4. Sort by name. If you see multiples of the same you have dupes.

    Hey Antonio

The “Show Duplicate Frames” feature needs your “clips” to have Reel and Timecode associated to them (as that is how it tracks clip usage) and it will actually work perfectly happily with stills too if you provide them with appropriate tracking data. You can do that using the Modify menu > Timecode function, but take care that each one is assigned a unique Reel or unique Timecode otherwise they’ll all appear to be duplicates of each other.

Hello Andy, thank you so much for your response.

That is what I was afraid of. It will be a good note for when I star my next documentary to do it from the start.

    Thank you again.

Hello John, thanks so much for responding.

I will try your suggestion, it seems to be the most direct way.

    Thanks again,

    Antonio
