Find Used Effects
Posted by Yiannis Valkan on January 21, 2009 at 11:38 amHi.
I have been given a complex project with many effects being used.
Is there a fast way to see which effects are being used to each scene?
The only way i know is double click on each cut and see on the filters tab, but we are talking for more that 300 cuts.

January 21, 2009 at 2:38 pmThis is a somewhat strange question. How are the effects explained to you, can you include the descriptions? Are they described in your script?
Many plugin makers include at least a screen shot of their effect, some show movies. Also, each effect resident in Final Cut are explained in the manual.
Have a wonderful day.

January 21, 2009 at 2:50 pmWhat i meant is that i have almost 300 clips on a timeline. Many apple effects are used in each clip.
For e.g Clip1 has Extrude & Crystalize, Clip2 has Defocus & Insect eye etc.
Is there a fast way to see fast which effects are used on each clip and not double clicking on each clip?
Thanx.2 minds are better than one.

January 21, 2009 at 4:02 pmWell, no, short of playing the timeline and spotting them. If you don’t recognize an effect you would have to click it into the viewer.
Have a wonderful day.

January 21, 2009 at 10:34 pmIf you look at the top of the Canvas Window you will see 3 oval buttons.
1st lets you adjust window size.
2nd lets you Sync your playhead or not.
3rd lets you adjust what you see in your canvas.
if you click on the center one and set it to OPEN you will notice that whatever your player is on in the timeline (when stopped) will appear in the Viewer. If you then click on the filters tab in the viewer you will then see the effects that are used in that clip without double clicking. By hitting the next edit key you can jump from edit to edit and see what effects are in each clip.
good luck

January 21, 2009 at 11:26 pmFurther to Victors good tip, you can also make bins for certain scenes or shots, select all the filters for that shot and drag the filters to their bin. Label the bin and even the filters if you wish, so you can easily identify them. Next time you need that combo, highlight and drag to shots or scenes as required.
