HD crashed for a second time in a month. bought a new HD. upgraded to win 7 64 bit and loaded Vegas 8c. Vegas kept hanging when trying to import files. so I just upgraded to Veggie 10 64 bit and now happy again. Not being a high end user, I don’t see where the upgrade will benefit much except for the fact of moving to 64 bit. I may try to do some music videos though.

If you are doing HD then the 64 bit versions seem to be much more stable. Having been in software development at one point, I can tell you that what you don’t see is likely the cleanup and advancement of 64 bit code within the product. We are now two versions deep in 64 bit Vegas, I think, and also a much improved 64 bit version of Windows and .NET (which I think is used in Vegas. All in all, stability ought to be much improved, and it seems to be for me. It still occasionally crashes, (happened yesterday for instance and I didn’t lose anywork) but I can go a long time without it happening. So I usually upgrade rather rapidly, letting a few months go by to see about whether their are issues that surface, doing some homework on plug ins, then jumping in. I’ll likely upgrade in December or January.

And yes, hard drives can fail out of box. Always back up the system.

Actually, I am a .net/silverlight developer also using .net 1.1,2,3.5 and 4.0 framework and I do understand and appreciate 64 bit architecture in vegas. I have not done any HD yet. But I have been editing my inpirational TV programs since the release of Vegas 3 thanks to the help of this forum. Before they locked this forum down my handle was Saxxey. In the past I could not wait to get my hands on the latest version but since version 7, there is not much that has been added lately that I am using. I plan to go out and get a HD camera and play around but most of the consumer cameras save to disk now in a compressed format instead of mini dv tapes. I need to do some research to make sure I that get the right camera.

    8c was bad…9a-c bad…9e rock solid…10a riddled with advertising lies…but solid…

I love digital capture, I cringe when I get clients with miniDV’s lol…

    Cheapest I’d go: JVC 100u
    vavorite cam: Sony-ex1
both require playing with picture profiles…
    Otherwise flat video looks…
