I have read that Sony MXF works great. According to this Creative Cow thread FCP export to MXF: Sony’s free XDCAM Transfer includes an FCP Export component that will rewrap your DV, IMX, HDV or XDCAM HD variant edits to MXF

Otherwise, Quicktime ProRes422 can be read in Vegas but not written to. So if you are going back to FCP you can’t use ProRes422 the other way around but you can use it to get footage into Vegas from FCP. For this reason, Sony MXF seems the best bidirectional HD format.

mxf is my choice for this. The free Sony encoder makes it so that mxf in all flavors reads in all platforms at all bitrates. And it’s usually a very fast conversion.

Another vote for MXF. It is the only way that I know of to send files back and forth between Vegas and FC.

You may also want to consider rendering out of FCP as a DVCPROHD quicktime. This can be opened on the windows side using Raylight Decoder.

This plugin is on sale right now for only $45.
