  • final Twixtor slo mo question

Okay, so I fixed the solid layer so that it was the exact same pixel size as my video clip. I can now see the picture, not just the red screen. And when I apply the effect to the solid layer(with the color source set to the video clip), it does seem to slow down the source video…but the problem is the video does not extend as far as the solid I created. It goes black right after the normal clip length is finished. The point of applying the solid was to create a slo mo slip of the same length as the solid. Now what am I doing wrong?

    Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

You need to set the comp duration to how long you want it and calculate the speed (Twixtor slider) you want to fill the whole sequence. For example if you want to triple the duration, you set speed to 0.3333 and you make the comp duration to 3 times the source layer duration. Also make sure if you create the solid before you extend the Comp duration to grab the duration handle of the solid layer and make it extend to the end. Your other option is to simply drop the footage in a comp, set duration then select in project window the comp, and File|Make New Comp from selection and simply apply twixtor to that.

    1) You will find documentation in the Twixtor folder

Thank you! You know your stuff. Is there an easier way to calculate the comp duration? For example, if my video clip is 05:19 (5 seconds:19 frames) long at 23.976 fps, then is there a handy way to calculate what the comp should be if I want to quadruple it? The extra frames on most clips make precise calculation tricky, when there are varying frame rates per second.

Just put yourself in Frame mode to calculate (File|Project settings)
Look the layer duration and for a staight 4X, just multiply by 4 and use that as comp duration

If you want to trim frames as well
Option A: Select Movie in Project Window -> File|Make Comp from Selection, then in Comp
In AE 7, (other ways in other version), at the bottom left, the thrid icon makes the In/Out/Duration thing appear,
slide the movie so it starts at the right frame (right first frame is at first frame). Calculate the new duration (Original Duration minus number of frames trimmed at begin and end). Then it’s “NumberOfFramesIwant over NumberOfFramesThatAreGood)

Option B: Make a comp of the right duration, make a solid, Apply Twixtor. Use Twixtor in Frame Mode (as opposed to speed), go to first frame, in the Effects Control window right click on “Frame Num” value, put for a Max a smaller value (like the duration of the wanted result). Twirl open. Press on the keyframe clock icon. Move the “Frame Num” value intil you find your start frame. Now go to the last frame of the comp. Move the slider to the last good frame you want to use. Render. The later technique is useful to make dynamic time ramping as well.
