Oh they work alright and there are some cool ones there too. Are you having trouble? Sometimes they can make FCP take longer to load, that’s my only issue.

My opinion and experience are quite different. If you do not own these filters, do not buy them. I think FEC is a complete rip off at the price those rat rascals at M100 are charging. Editorially speaking, of course, just my opinion. Could be my deep loathing of Media 100 or my particular hardware configuration. Umm, either one, you pick.

Yes, they take forever to load into FCP. The copy protection scam that M100 uses seems to interfere with the filters loading. I have not been able to get this figured out. Each and every one of them will crash my copy of FCP4.5 making the FEC set not only useless but unspeakably dangerous.

I still have FEC installed for use with After Effects where they present different problems on my system. Media 100 never really improved on these fabulous filters. The Time set, for instance, still crashes AE after ten years. The manual M100 hacked together was a huge step down from the original. They eliminated dozens of pages describing advanced capabilities and completely ignored the hidden features. These screwups suggested to me (a guy who has owned every rev of the original Cycore FE and SE products before ICE and M100 grabbed them) that Media 100’s FEC team knew nothing about their product. They were apparently charged with getting the product out the door so it could generate cash.

Tiger and FCP5 might change some of this but I don’t care. I’ve got AE6.5+ on the way and it contains updates to Cycore’s brilliantly cool and subtly retro filter sets. There are many other sources for interesting filters for FCP.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
