I have rendered a client’s video projects for YouTube using this codec/format:

Sony AVC Internet 1280×720 – .mp4 (template but changed frame for 24fps)

The videos look great and the client couldn’t be happier. I uploaded the videos to their channel and would like to send them a DVD copy of the MP4s. I would also like to send them a copy of the files in as high resolution as possible for their archiving purposes in HD.

I have tried some of the .avi templates with poor results. In fact, the AVC Internet template looks the best on my Viewsonic 1080p computer monitor. Any suggestions? Is this even necessary?

What format was the original project set for and what was the original media?

Did you want it able to be played on a regular DVD player or just using a DVD as a data disk?

Thanks for the quick response Joe.

The original project was shot in 1920×1080. I then downconverted to 1280×720 (long story, don’t ask). The YouTube videos are in this resolution/format. I don’t want to mess with DVD Architect, I am solely interested in using a DVD as video file storage – as high res as possible from my Vegas Pro 10 projects. Thanks.

Well… it’s important that we know if you have a 1080 version of the project or not. If you do, render with Sony AVC using the AVCHD 1920×1080-60i template. If you don’t, use the Internet 1280×720-30p template. You should be able to raise the bit-rate if you want higher quality but, of course, you can’t exceed the 4.7GB file size limit of the DVD media.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a 1080 version because the graphics are not formatted for that (John, perhaps you will recall some of my earlier posts – 🙂 ).

I think the 1280×720 AVC Internet render looks pretty darn good on my monitor so I could just give that to the client on DVD.

However, when I blow it up to full screen on my monitor, it doesn’t look as good. So I’m wondering if there’s something I could do to get a crisp, “broadcast quality” version of the original 1280×720 Vegas project.

Increase the bit-rate. Set it to 16,000,000 and it should look great. It goes as high as 20,000,000 if that will still fit on the DVD.
