final cut x and 7 working together?
Hi,
I have a client who wants to use Final Cut X on his computer and sort through all of his media, then just give me the bits he wants me to edit from.
Problem is, I use just Final Cut 7.
Is there a way to allow our workflow to exist as he would like? (He is adverse to going through and writing down time stamps by hand through 30 hours of footage)
And I am hesitant to just have him export clips, thinking we might lose quality of our final product?

That literally is the only app that will work. I haven’t used it because I don’t deal with FCX at all. But I know that many people do use it. Quality will be the same…it’s just linking to the media. Hopefully the media on FCX has been ‘optimized” to ProREs.

Is that something that has to be done in FCX by the user?
So, hopefully, my client will be able to sync audio files to his video, create events of just the clips he wants me to use in FCP7, and export them for me using the Xto7 software…

Yes. When they import media, they have the option to edit it native, or to optimize it. FCX will actually prompt them asking if they want to…if they click YES it will convert the footage to ProRes.
