    hey guys,

at the company where i work we currently run two apple editing systems. one is a mac pro and the other is a G5. we want to upgrade to FCP universal (we currently run 5.0.4)

    two questions

    1. final cut pro universal can run on non-intel based systems right? (i’m assuming its implied in the name)

    2. if we start working on something on FCP universal on the mac pro, continue to work on it on the G5 (let’s say we keep FCP 5.0.4 on that system) and then switch back to the MAC PRO, will it work? i’m sure the answer is no but its always good to hear it from others.

    Thanks in Advance…

You assume correctly. Anything with “Universal” means Power PC / Intel operation.

No, FCP is not backwards compatible. In fact, as you update FCP 5.1 each update is not backwards compatible with the previous so you have to be VERY careful when you update.
