    Dear Creative Cow,
Have been using FCP 5.0 for a number of projects. No problems. But very recently my FCP has started acting very strange. After about 10 minutes many of my once available options are now gone. They are “grayed out” and not operational. Not even a simple cross dissolve is functional! Then I try to save the project and quit…well now not even my keyboard commands are functional. I finally am able to quit and restart. Then it starts all over again. The first thing I notice after restart about FCP is that my external video monitor needs to be refreshed before it I can see playback. Never had this happen before either.
One last note: this computer is not hooked up to the internet. I upgraded to 5.0 and have just been telling the registration page to “register later”. Could this be part of the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shane’s Stock Tip Mantra: If the program was working fine, and now isn’t, or just isn’t working the way it should, the first things to do are:

    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at https://www.pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue and run it.

    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.

    3) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

Thanks. Tried it and still having the same problems. Do you know if Apple has a timebomb installed within their software to cause problems if it is never registered? This G-5 isn’t hooked up to the internet and I can’t register the software without moving my whole desktop machine into another part of the house. This nightmare occurs when my G-5 has been on for a few minutes. Could it be a RAM issue?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
