Wonder how many bugs this version will ship with? New codec support is nice and native camera support is nice, but with the extremely limited number of people who tested it out, I’ll purchase it, but not bring it online for several months at least….

Surprised or not is hardly an issue. FCS sells it self as an allround workflow solution, essentially heads up against the CS4 suite and Sony’s Vegas Suite which now both sport blu-ray authoring.

Whatever Apples crystal ball tells them about Blu-Ray, it is an increasing demand from our clients. As such it is an increasing weight from our money men to ditch ‘these expensive apple machines’ and go with a less expensive yet more featured (to their eyes at least) solution.

While I do not expect apple to pander to MY specific needs, I did expect more than a grunt and nod towards blu-ray.

BluRay was in demand two years ago from my clients. First we bought Adobe Encore in the CS3 package. It was terrible. The CS4 version is terrible too.

We have been using DoStudio from NetBlender for over a year now and it’s just perfect. Runs on Windows so we have one Windows workstation that does nothing but BluRay authoring. It has paid for itself many times over and what Apple decides to do with BluRay doesn’t affect us.

As I’ve said so many times in the past, if you NEED BluRay then get yourself a solution and don’t wait on Apple.

Looked at the presentation videos on Apple.com looks like Francis and Walter Murch has had access to a version for quite some time. With luck they have been able to help Apple removing a lot of the bugs. I personally like the fact that the markers moves when you delete something from the time line. A mistake which did cost me a lot of time in the first version of studio. I also like the new noice level tool i soundtrack. I gather you didn’t know about the release of Final Cut Studio as well.

    Walter,

We have solutions from both DoStudio and Sonic.

Now that DoStudio have allowed a ‘one off’ type payment rather than the monthly fee, its getting a bit more of attention. DVDit pro does work… but it’s really picky about formats..and i mean REALLY.

It has never been a case of waiting for Apple, however it is very much a case of..’why do we buy this when this is cheaper and can do it ALL on one machine with one operator’ from the windows zealot bean-counters.

There is only so long I am going to be able to fight FCS’s corner in the growing shadow of adobe and vegas.

I love FCP, its the only editing system I have ever felt was close to Discreets EDIT* in terms of usability, but I just cant help feeling that Apple have dropped the ball a bit with this one.

I admit I am most likely overly-frustrated with this update, and there are no doubt many things that are greatly improved for other users… but in purely selfish terms, short of the shadows in motion there is nothing there that really gets me much benefit.

It’s actually just called Final Cut Studio. Not Final Cut Studio 3. Comes in a new smaller box too.

I am nicely surprised to see the native AVHCD support for editing. I don’t need it, but would like to see the native XDCAM file support for editing. They did include XDCAM in their upgrades, faster import, rendering, etc. Just not native editing.

I wonder if the new ProRes codecs are any smaller on file size?

With Snow Leopard just around the corner and where does Final Cut Pro stand on its architecture? Also is it true that all ProApps are currently 64-bit with FCP being the only 32 bit carbon one? Or is the entire suite 32 bit carbon?
