Okay, now go to http://www.aja.com and install the very latest drivers for FCP6.

https://www.aja.com/ajashare/Kona3_Software_4.0.tar

Then install those and it should work.

AJA makes very reliable drivers, they aren’t broken, I think you might have the wrong version installed.

this is what I wrote to the kona support team:

Hi,

after long researches and tryouts and reinstallation of fcp studio 2.01 (FCP 6.0.1) and the aja kona 3 software 4.0 i found out that the aja kona software installed blocks the fcp program from opening i.e. fcp does not open up. JeremyG from the creative cow forum was kindly enough to point out to uninstall the kona drivers. As I did fcp opened up. As soon as I install aja Kona software 4.0 final cut studio crashes on opening. Repair permission and trashing fcp preferences did not solve the problem. I am on this issue the last 24 hrs and need desperatly help due to an urgent timeframed projekt.

AJA support is great and I am sure they will get back to you soon. Let me know how it goes when they respond.

Come to think of it, did you run the PCIe Expansion Slot Utility and assign the proper lanes to the Kona card?

By the way, the Expansion Slot Utility is located here:

/System/Library/Core Services/Expansion Slot Utility

then you want to choose option 2 (x16 graphics + Two x4 Lane and One x1 Lane Slots).

Make sure your Kona card is in slot 3 or 4 when you do this.

thanks for the tipps…

I just had a 3 hr conversation with Hector from Aja, we tried everything incuding your sugestions. Nothing changed. For now I just ignore the aja card.. to much to do. The solution wich I allready new I ll have to do is to start from scratch. Just the system FCP and the aja card, and then to go from there. Right now, after 3 weeks of istalling and testing the entire system. Oh boy, I could imagine something else..

I am wondering if some one else is experience this issue, and I will post in the aja forum.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. Perhaps a fresh install will do you well. I think starting with FCP, and then AJA is a good way to go. Then build up everything else from there.

I installes a fresh system over the old one without deleting all my apps and files erased a few programms wich I remebered being istalled just before the crashes, everything worked exept fcp…
Then I Reinstalled fcp and aja kona software and BINGO.

All works like charm.

I guess the system got corrupted and also fcp while updating and istalling plugs and software.

Just for the record..

Awesome! I’m glad you are now up and running. The thing to do now is install one thing at a time and make sure that FCP/Kona works at the end of that install. A pain in the butt, but at least you will know what’s working and what’s not working.
