Final Cut Studio 2 and Lion
Posted by Jason Ayers on July 20, 2011 at 5:10 pmHas anyone been able to use Final Cut Studio 2 in Lion yet? I’ve found mixed results as to whether or not they are compatible.
Thanks.

July 20, 2011 at 5:57 pmQuestions to ask yourself…
1) What does LION get me that my previous OS does not?
2) Do I need what it gives me?
3) Do you use this machine with FCS 2 on it to earn a living? Does it work? (if so, DO NOT UPDATE! There is NO reason to update to the latest OS if the machine you use to make a living editing is fully functional).

July 20, 2011 at 9:12 pmWhat I’ve read so far is that FCS2 will run on Lion, but you won’t be able to install FCS2 on Lion (if you needed to reinstall later, for example) because FCS2’s installer uses Rosetta, which is not supported by Lion. So you could upgrade to Lion and have FCS2 work, but that’s it. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3134652?start=0&tstart=0

October 17, 2011 at 8:36 pmI just installed Final Cut Studio on a new Mac Mini using Lion.
Just install Rosetta on the Lion system from a Snow Leopard (or perhaps other) OS install disk.
Then do the normal install process for FCS 2. I have only messed about briefly with some XDCAM footage in Final Cut on the mini, but all seemed normal.
Please, if you are going to lambaste me for the insanity of running Final Cut on a Mini, save it. This is an experiment, it won’t be my main editing machine. Just wanted to see if it works.
