Interested in upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2. Currently running FCP @ 5.4 level, and my understanding is that Studio 2 will upgrade FCP to version 6. Is there a way of maintaining both versions of FCP (5 and 6) in the Applications Folder.
I currently do work for a production house that uses only 5.
    Thanks alot.

[Joe Colombatto] “Is there a way of maintaining both versions of FCP (5 and 6) in the Applications Folder.”

No. You have to create two completely separate bootable partitions on your System Drive or install a separate drive for the new install.

Be sure to never open any of the older 5 projects in 6 or you won’t be able to open them again in 5.

Also, search for the several zillion posts I’ve personally made on this forum about cloning your system drive. You can clone your current installed version of FCP to an inexpensive firewire drive and then upgrade your system drive to ver. 6. Now, you have both versions and you can simply boot to the drive with the version you need.

There are some users who have reported successfully running both versions on the same system and partition.

You copy the fcp 5.x executable to the new versions install folder then run it. No guarantee it will work, though it has for some. Its certainly not something I would do though.
