I’m planning on buying a MacBook Air 2015, 2016, or 2017 depending on what is available at the time. At the current pricing in the second hand market, they are ranging from $520 – $640 converted (In my country which is the Philippines). I saw Jonathan Morrison’s 4K Video Editing video and he used a 12 inch MacBook.

So to the question, is a MacBook Air capable of editing 4K videos with LUTs, stabilization applied? If I go this route then I will be leaving Premiere Pro for good.

PS: I chose the Air because I also need it for ultra portability.

I used my 2013 MacBook Air to edit from time to time. You can get away with it at full 4k if you only have one or two streams of video and can definitely do it if you go with a proxy workflow. The only downside is that the screen resolution doesn’t give you a lot of room to work as far as the user interface goes.
