    This afternoon, I received my upgrade to Final Cut Studio. Diligently closing all apps (no idea why, but I do) I then inserted the install dvd and off we went.
    On finishing the whole lot I took the time to reboot, just in case. Check to see if there were any updates (there were) and then opened up FCP and went to work.
    Now I find I can’t exit or quit FCP because I have a dialog that tells me: “You cannot quit Final Cut Pro while rendering a job for Compressor. Cancel or allow the job to finish and then quit Final Cut pro.”

    THERE ARE NOT JOBS RUNNING!!!!

    Could someone; anyone shed some light on what is or may be happening, please? (No comments about a coven meeting in my machine, please!)

    It’ll help if you mention specifically what versions of FCS you had and are upgrading to. Even without that info, I can tell you that not only is it essential that you close all programs while installing and restart afterward, but the proper way to “upgrade” FCS to avoid any strange problems is to do a full re-install of the Final Cut Studio suite instead of installing over an older version. In fact, it’s really best to first wipe the hard drive and do a full clean install of both the O/S and the FCS suite. That is, unless you’re just talking about an “update” (a minor bug-fix type update) rather than an “upgrade” (from FCS2 to FCS3).

    Dave,

    Many thanks for your reply. Here’s some additional information that you asked for;

    I’m upgrading from FCS2 to FCS3.

    All apps were closed while I was installing- standard issue for any and all machines and their OS’s.

    I always restart after installing – hangover from having to work on Windoze!

    As for wiping and reinstalling OS and FCS? I hear you but that’s not practical (at this moment) and I live with the consequences of that.

    I have found a cure though! After going through a software update check, there was an update to Protools and this appears to have cured the issue along with the one I was having with Qmaster.

    So your reply made me rethink the whole scenario I had gotten myself into, Dave and thankfully all is running shipshape and Bristol fashion as I type.

    Many thanks,

    Lawrence

    I’m very glad to hear you found a solution, Lawrence.

    I understand what you mean about a clean install being impractical sometimes … my personal experience has been that, the few times I didn’t do a clean new version install, I ended up spending more time dealing with and resolving various issues than a clean install would’ve taken. So, I now carefully plan upgrades around workflow (i.e., never while anything other very minor projects are pending).
