Final Cut Pro suddenly distorts audio!??
Posted by Simon Dybeck on January 7, 2011 at 11:31 amHi
I have filmed much with my 7d using a juicedlink mixer and imported it into final cut pro.
Suddenly when I am editing the sound gets distorted and really high even though the sound waves look fine. It happens mostly in transitions on all my timelines. Here is a video clip of the phenomenon: https://enelesfilm.se/ovrigt/audiofail-desktop.m4v
Look at the audio meters 🙁 Why is it like this and how do I fix it?!
Thank you so much for any help!Thomas Casey replied 13 years, 4 months ago 5 Members · 21 Replies -

January 7, 2011 at 11:48 amAs it happens where there’s a mix it may be a bad render, so if you get rid of the mix and remake it, that might fix it.

January 7, 2011 at 11:51 amwhat do you mean with the get rid of the mix?
This problem is totally random. I can play over a section many times and get either no distortions or many different sounding distortions on different places. Totally random! -

January 7, 2011 at 12:23 pmBy mix I mean cross-fade. But if it’s random that changes my mind. Is the audio all at 48kHz?
I notice that there’s been a few threads about this kind of thing, so it could be worthwhile searching through them…

January 7, 2011 at 1:19 pmWhat format are the clips? ProRes with 48khz audio? or? What are your sequence settings?

January 7, 2011 at 1:30 pmIt’s been a while, but a restart of the computer usually quells this for a while.

January 7, 2011 at 2:06 pmI have prores with 48khz audio but strangely some also are at 50050Hz.
Cant check the project right now but the Sequence settings should be ProRes LT 1920×1080 with 25fps and 48khz audio.I have had this problem with this project for some months now so restarts have been made countless times 🙂

Anyone have any ideas about the 50050Hz thing? -

January 11, 2011 at 12:32 pmWell I have som clips conformed from 24fps to 25fps in Cinema Tools. Im not sure which but it must be those who have 50050Hz. I tried trashing preferences and deleting renders from render manager but it still doesnt work 🙁

January 11, 2011 at 1:58 pmYes, when using Cinema Tools to conform, your audio is resampled and pitch is changed as the duration of your movie has changed.
