Final Cut Pro Send to Motion causes interlace problems?
Hi,
I wanted to use the image stabiliser in Motion. In my FCP timeline I sent the clip to Motion but in Motion the clip has interlace issues that where not apparent in FCP. What is causing this and any thoughts on how to solve it?
Is Motion using a different codec from FCP?

The interlace problems weren’t apparent in FCP because FCP’s Canvas by default only shows you one field, while Motion shows you both fields.
But there is no reason to go to Motion to stabilize a shot, since FCP has the Smoothcam filter, which does exactly the same thing.

You will have the same exact interlacing problems if you try to stabilize the footage in FCP.
Stabilizers work by shifting the image around to compensate for the motion of the camera. If it senses the camera moving up, the clip is shifted down, camera left, clip right, etc. All stabilizers work this way.
If you shift the clip up or down, you will reverse fields. That’s why the FCP manual warns against stabilizing interlaced material.
