My final cut pro says its out of memory sometimes when I try and export files. Also it crashes randomly.. I have a new Intel MAC. I dont know whats going on with it. I have over 1.4 TB of space I have a Main Hard drive for the project files and then the other Hard drive for the video files. They both have a lot of space left. The project I have been working on is so big that my Bins are really dragging along, causing my computer to lag up. Also when I try to edit or just play something back sometimes it will just close unexpectedly… not sure whats going on. Input please!

First of all, FCP can only use 2.5 GB of RAM in its current incarnation.

When your project gets too big – it DOES turn into a slow running mess. You need to duplicate your project, and then cull it down. Get rid of old sequences, previous cuts, etc… will get it back to normal speed. Then if you ever really need to see one of those old cuts, you can open the old project file.

Before you go ANY further, you need to check you RAM. Who installed the extra RAM in your system? You or a third-party manufacturer? The new Mac Pro has some serious memory requirements concerning FCP. Here’s an Apple doc explaining this…

YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THIS TO THE LETTER!

By the way… I forgot to mention that you need to remove any of the Apple 512 meg RAM bars, if all the others are 1 gig RAM bars.
