  • Final Cut Pro – Problem exporting XML of Sequence “Critical Error”

Posted by Leigh O’neill on January 25, 2012 at 7:11 pm

    Hi there,
I’m fairly new to Final Cut. I’m trying to export an XML of our picture locked sequence for finishing/color timing. Every time I try, I get “xml translation was aborted due to a critical error” about 20% in. The sequence is ProRes HD 4:2:2, about 1Hr 30Min. I’ve read of people having problems with XML while exporting large projects (over 50mb) but this is just a single sequence. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Do you have any events (clips) disabled in the timeline?

Any clips that have no reel numbers?

    Clips named “untitled”?

The list goes on… But, you get the picture. Right?

Sounds to me like about 20% into your sequence, you have some media files that are corrupt. Re build this area and give it another go. If the media file is really corrupt, you need to rebuild it by exporting it as a self contained movie file using the same codec as before, but turn on recompress all frames… but I’ll bet that’s the problem.

I’m just coming on to the project so I’m not too sure, I’ll scour through and get back to you. Much appreciated!

Thanks Jerry, I’ll take a look at doing that. I’m now getting the error at around 9%, it seems to vary at what point it crashes.
As for the clip names, reel numbers…
Do Text layers, slugs..that type of thing need reel numbers?
    No clips disabled or “untitled”.
    Thanks guys!

Jeez, nothing seems to work. Taken the sequence into a new project, copied its contents into a new sequence, took everything offline, tried it in separate parts. Even if I delete the first quarter of the sequence it still comes up with the error around 14%, sometimes 9% and sometimes 20%.
    Very frustrating…
