    Hi,
I have recenty upraded from my g5 imac to a mac book pro.

On my G5 i had the final cut keyboard which was really handy. I know you can use it with the macbook but i have heard on the grapevine of a much better idea.

I have heard that its possible to get a rubber matting which fits over the keyboard perfectly, not only does this protect the keys and screen but also has all the final cut shortcut buttons transfered on the matting. Genius! And i want one.

Does anyone know where i could find this as i have looked all over google and have had no joy!

    Many thanks.

I think the Bella keyboard is a much better solution. The FCP Pro keyboard includes a jog / shuttle wheel which makes for very efficient digitizing and even working in the timeline.

Only $189 and you can find it cheaper at various online retailers.

Personally I use a Jog Shuttle and normal keyboard, but I have most of the relevant commands memorized which works fine, and either way I would go with the external full size keyboard personally I like them more…

But alot of my work is on the road and on various locacations, and carrying a seperate keyboard isnt ideal.

    thats fantastic. I want one.

I have a clear protector and it’s excellent. It was thrown in as an extra when I bought the MBP. Immediately thought “that won’t be any good, it’s bound to get in the way” … I was very happy to discover I was dead wrong. You dont even know its there.

Word of warning tho’ … should be OK for most MBP keyboards, but not all are the same. Some European keybaord layouts are quite different

Invest your time in learning the keys. Anytime you’re wondering pull out the cheat in the manuals or just look it up in the keyboard layout.

I agree. FCP keyboards are only for impressing clients. A good editor knows all the basic keyboard shortcuts by heart. And the tough ones require modifier keys that aren’t even ON the keyboard. 😉

I’ll disagree with that. I know about 10 keyboard shortcuts and i’ve been cutting with this for about 5 years. I don’t care about keyboard shortcuts or learning them all by heart. I use the Buttons tool to save all my shortcuts in the timeline or look at my Bella keyboard.

A good editor knows how to tell a story, not just operate software.
