  • Final Cut Pro Font Issues With Suitcase

I’m having weird font issues in FCP. The agency that I work for uses a program called Suitecase to handle the many fonts that we own. Each font that we own usually has a number of different styles. When I open a font and go into Final Cut Pro the fonts do not look as they should. It appears that Final Cut is seeing the first style on the list for that particular font (ex. Helvetica Bold Italic) which results in the plain option in the viewer to be wrong. How should I be handling my fonts? Should I be putting them into my hard drive’s font folder instead? I’d rather not b/c of company standards but if thats the only solution than I will.

    Thanks in advance

I have had numerous issues with Suitcase in all versions of FCP, most notably when you are using server based fonts. The other issue is that FCP does not recognize Type 1 fonts at all, only TT and OTF.

Put your fonts in LIBRARY> FONTS not in the location in the User’s fonts folder.

Use Title 3d instead. It’s much mo’ better in the font department, besides that it keeps thing rasterized.

I’ve been using FCP for the past 4 years and never even knew about the Tilte 3D – how do I use it within FCP? Is it a plug-in? I see that it is suppose to be bundled with the FCP studio but I don’t seem to have it. Help.

It comes with FCP. In the most current version it’s in the Generators under Boris > Title3d. In earlier versions i think it was in the Text folder of the generators.

Found it and it seems to work just fine with suitecase – thanks so much!
